š« JetBlue Ends Baltimore-Boston Route After Over a Decade of Service
After over a decade of service, JetBlue is set to discontinue its Baltimore to Boston route this spring. The decision to exit this route comes as a result of underperformance and a lack of customer demand, according to a spokesperson for JetBlue.
The Baltimore to Boston route was first introduced in 2009, offering up to four daily flights at its peak. However, over the years, the airline has reduced frequencies on this route, indicating weaker demand than initially anticipated. Competition from major carriers Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines, which offer multiple daily frequencies between Baltimore and Boston, may have contributed to the decision.
JetBlueās last day of service on the Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) to Boston route will be on May 1, 2024. Passengers booked on this route after May 1 will receive a full refund back to their original payment method.
JetBlue emphasized that the decision to exit Baltimore was made ālong before we got the courtās decision on our acquisition of Spirit Airlines.ā The recent court decision struck down the proposed Spirit merger, which would have made the combined airline the fifth largest carrier in the U.S. JetBlue plans to appeal the courtās decision.
While JetBlue is discontinuing service from Baltimore, it will continue to offer nonstop services out of the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, with more than 10 daily frequencies between Boston and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Additionally, JetBlue is planning to add Tulum, Mexico, as its newest destination in June, focusing on leisure-focused routes. šš
