🚨 Attention travelers! Get ready for some changes at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as it undergoes “major” construction. While the park remains open, here’s what to expect:
🛑 Temporary Closures & Delays:
🚧 Partial closures for repairs and infrastructure work.
🚗 Reduced parking and potential entrance delays.
⚠️ Possible temporary area closures, especially during a summit eruption.
🚜 Construction Details:
🏞️ Repairing and removing damaged buildings.
🛣️ Realignment of Crater Rim Drive.
🌿 Restoration of Uēkahuna to a natural landscape.
⌛ Construction Timeline:
📅 First phase: 600 days.
🔄 Followed by the rehab of Kīlauea Visitor Center in phase two.
🅿️ Parking and Access:
🅿️ Half of the Uēkahuna parking lot is blocked for project staging.
🚧 Restrictions for vehicles longer than 25 feet and wider than eight feet.
🚗 Gravel overflow parking at Kīlauea Visitor Center will be a staging area.
